Job Description
The selected architects will provide program-level technical leadership across enterprise architecture, security, data governance, integration, APIs, cloud modernization, and solution design. They will help define architecture standards, guide technology decisions, evaluate solution options, support vendor and stakeholder collaboration, and ensure systems are secure, scalable, interoperable, maintainable, and aligned with statewide enterprise standards
Responsibilities
Provide architecture leadership for a large-scale public-sector modernization program.
Design secure, scalable, and cloud-first enterprise solutions.
Support modernization of legacy systems, applications, data flows, and integrations.
Develop architecture standards, reference models, design documentation, and technical roadmaps.
Lead solution design reviews and provide recommendations on technology options.
Embed security, privacy, compliance, and risk-management principles into all designs.
Support API strategy, integration patterns, data architecture, governance, and migration planning.
Collaborate with business leaders, technical teams, vendors, and public-sector stakeholders.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical planning sessions, design reviews, and delivery checkpoints.
Support documentation, knowledge transfer, operational readiness, and long-term sustainment.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in IT architecture, system design, software development, application modernization, infrastructure, data, or related technology areas.
5+ years of hands-on architecture or senior technical leadership experience.
Experience designing enterprise-scale applications, platforms, integrations, or infrastructure.
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, modern application architecture, APIs, microservices, data architecture, and security principles.
Experience working with Agile or iterative delivery teams.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with Washington State or public-sector modernization programs
Experience with enterprise Identity and Access Management initiatives
Experience replacing or integrating with legacy mainframe systems
Certifications such as TOGAF, Azure/AWS/GCP Architect, ITIL, CISSP, CISM, CCSP, CDMP, Snowflake, MuleSoft, Apigee, or related credentials
